Copper Concentrator

Constancia Copper Mine, Cusco, Peru

Cosapi performs mechanical assembly works on crushing, grinding, flotation and thickeners areas of the main processing plant in Constancia mine. The project will be implemented as a single contractor, a full benefit plant of a large mining concentrator with a capacity of 70,000 tonnes per day.

The contract includes the construction of the crushing zone (1,600 x 3,000 mm), a stock-pile, a claim belts and shakers system, two SAG mills of 36 feet in diameter and 24 feet long; two ball mills of 26 feet in diameter and 40 feet long, a system of 14 and 12 vertical cells rougher and scavenger flotation respectively; systems and various ancillary reagents.

Concentration and processing plant construction

The project involves the development of a concentrator plant and respectives facilities for the processing of polymetallic ores at a rate of 2,000 tonnes per day in order to produce concentrates of copper, lead, zinc and silver.

The service includes the execution of civil works which comprises construction of foundations, retaining walls, construction of industrial buildings and additional buildings, as well as installation and assembly of electromechanical works corresponding to the area of ​​crushing and grinding.

The crushing and grinding are includes the primary, secondary, tertiary crusher. The floatation zone area includes lime plant and reagents. The thickening-filtering zone, energy facilities and water necessary for the operation and processing plant is considered in the construction.

In order to maintain production plant, during the SAG mill shutdown to change its stator, Minera Antamina devised an alternative system that would set a By Pass to the grinding process, deriving flow of SAG mill to feed directly into ball mills.

The Bypass passes through three specific areas, tripper, vibrating equipments and crusher and grinding area. Its realization demanded the execution of civil, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation works. The main equipments set were two vibrating screens, a cone crusher and three conveyor belts.

Antacid coating of 23,000m2 was also performed. In regards to the specialties of electricity and instrumentation, laying and connection of 51,000m of power and control cables as well as 24,000m of instrumentation cables was performed.

The main areas of work were the new cell house, molding building, Zinc and Powder building and a demineralized water plant.

Cosapi was in charge of design, procurement, construction, equipping and commissioning of civil and electromechanical works for the Acid Water Treatment Plant Kingsmill Tunnel, which consists of a clarifier, a feed tank, tank reactors, pools sludge, a pool of emergency, a building process, adduction line and a transmission line .

This project comprised the execution of civil and mechanical works for the Liquefied Natural Gas Plant Peru LNG Melchorita, which will allow this country to export natural gas from Camisea.

The civil works included the placement of 26,000m3 of concrete in foundations, slabs, elevated structures and other minor structures. The mechanical works included the installation of 15Km of underground HDPE, UPVC and glass fiber pipelines corresponding to the systems of firewater, drinking, drainage and sewage waters.

Additional works were performed such as the design and construction of the jetty loading electrical substation, the installation of perimetrical fences and the asphalt works on the main roads.

The scope of work includes the construction of a grinding system, transport and stacking of ore for leaching. It includes the construction of fixed crushing system to then transport the ore by a combined system of belt conveyors. Stacking and distribution is made towards two streams where low grade sulfide ore deposits are formed to then be leached.

Its includes the building construction that will house the crusher, excavations with a volume of 80,000 m3 and fillings with a volume of 30,000 m3 were performed for such construction.

320,000 m3 volumen of earthmoving works are executed for the installation of a conveyor belt. Excavations were carried by a volume de 75,000 m3 for the construction of a transfer tower which starts the mineral stacking system.

The project included the engineering, procurement and construction management of the following works in the Antamina mining complex:

A Permanent camp for 5,000 people, a concentrator plant of 70,000 tons/day, tailings dam 232 m high, Conococha - Yanacancha road (120 km), transmission line 220 KV (60 km), 300 km pipeline from Yanacancha to Huarmey, port to export Huarmey concentrates.

The project used 15 million direct man-hours in construction and 5,000 people at the peak of work.
