Austria Duvaz Morococha copper mine

The copper mining project of Sociedad Minera Austria Duvaz, is located in the central part of the Andes in Morococha mining district, Yauli, Junín, Peru at an altitude of between 4,300 and 4,500 meters above sea level.

The ore is treated by a conventional differential flotation process in a plant with a treatment capacity of 800 tpd with an expansion projection to 1000 tpd in the short term. The recovery process is by selective and differential flotation, initially floating a lead-copper bulk concentrate to later being separated into two commercial concentrates.

As part of this update of Mine Closure Plan (MCP); citizen participation mechanisms were applied in order to capture the views and expectations of the community area of ​​influence of mining operations and to establish the possible social implications that may arise due to mining closure activities .

The components of the MCP considered 03 Bocaminas (Polvorin, Oswaldo Cuadro, Carlos Reynaldo), 01 deposit tailings (Puquiococha), 01 landfill, 08 infrastructure (concentration plant, general wharehouse, among others) and 01 access.

According to directorial resolution Nº384-2012-MEM/AAM given on Nov 22nd 2012, the mine closure plan update for Austria Duvaz unit was approved meeting the technical requirements for the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines.

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

The EIA was conducted in order to comply with the company reserve plan, Austria Duvaz needed to make changes to the production process of concentrates as well as tailings disposal for years from 2011 to 2016, ensuring therefore the life of the mine; the following components were implemented:

Expanding the capacity of the Puquiococha concentrator plant from 450 to 800 tonnes/day. Regrowth of the western sector of the Puquiococha tailings dam, final geometry from level 4,515 to 4,528 meters above sea level.

According to directorial resolution Nº081-2012-MEM/AAM given on March 16th 2012, the Austria Duvaz EIA study was approved meeting the technical requirements for the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines and the environmental local regulations.

Rod Mill

Rod mill which function is to grind the ore to an appropriate minimum size for flotation, this is the final stage of size reduction.

The rod mill, used as a primary mill, basically consists of a horizontal rotating cylindrical drum loaded at 50% of its volume approximately with steel bars, this cylindrical drum is continuously fed by the ore coming from the crushing process as well as enough water to form the mass of ore.

The jaw crusher consists of 2 jaws of manganese steel of which one is fixed and the other is mobile, ore passes and is crushed between the two jaws, where the mobile jaw performs oscillating movements produced by the rotation of an eccentric axis which in turn is driven by a signal transmitted from a motor pulley.

Vibratory Grizzly 3' x 5' (Shaker Vibration No. l) which primary function is to classify the product either letting it move towards conveyor No.1 or sending large minerals to the primary crusher.

The operation of the vibrating screening equipment is through vibration of an eccentric shaft which is cushioned by four sets of springs producing intermittent movement according to the inclination oriented towards the hopper ore crushing.
