Constancia Copper Mine

A 100% mine owned by Hudby Minerals, the mine is located in the south-eastern andes of Peru, in the Chamaca and Livitaca Districts, Province of Chumbivilcas, Department of Cusco.

The project was approximately 94% complete on a proportion spent basis at the end of September 2014. Of the total project capital budget of USD 1.7 billion, Hudbay has incurred approximately USD 1.6 billion in costs to September 30, 2014 and entered into an additional approximately USD 64 million in commitments. With a Property of 22,516 hectares in 36 mineral concessions, primary metals mined are copper while secondary ones molybdenum and silver.

The project remains on track for first concentrate production in the fourth quarter of 2014 and commercial production in the second quarter of 2015.

Copper Concentrator

Cosapi Ingeniería y Construcción

Cosapi performs mechanical assembly works on crushing, grinding, flotation and thickeners areas of the main processing plant in Constancia mine. The project will be implemented as a single contractor, a full benefit plant of a large mining concentrator with a capacity of 70,000 tonnes per day.

The contract includes the construction of the crushing zone (1,600 x 3,000 mm), a stock-pile, a claim belts and shakers system, two SAG mills of 36 feet in diameter and 24 feet long; two ball mills of 26 feet in diameter and 40 feet long, a system of 14 and 12 vertical cells rougher and scavenger flotation respectively; systems and various ancillary reagents.

Containerized E-houses

Siemens

Hudbay S.A.C Peru, a subsidiary of Canadian Hudbay Minerals, has ordered technical equipment from Siemens for the power supply and integrated automation at its Constancia copper mine in Peru. The order also includes preassembled power distribution units (E-houses), fully equipped transformer substations with high voltage and medium voltage switchgear, diesel generators, capacitor banks and transformers.

Siemens is to provide a complete solution (E-EPC) for the medium and low voltage power supply at Constancia copper mine including twelve E-houses.

E-houses are equipped with a customized power distribution system at medium and low voltage level, and are assembled complete in individual modules and pretested prior to transport to the installation point. The delivery package also includes two office containers as well as a permanently installed transformer house with medium voltage switchgear, three diesel generator sets, and six capacitor banks systems with the accompanying distribution transformers.

Siemens will also deliver and install a complete high voltage transformer substation for connecting the mine to the grid. The order for Siemens included also the medium and low voltage drives and automation system.

As a result of the update and progress of engineering facilities and process optimisation, it is advisable to increase the rate of ore processing 55,000 tonnes per day (tpd) for a period of 15 years to 81,900 tonnes per day (tpd) decreasing the lifetime of mine to 11 years.

It is proposed to amend the stages of construction and regrowth of tailing dam target specific areas for storage of non-acid generating drainage material as well as to store saturated material product of earthworks in the footprint of the tailings dam .

According to directorial resolution Nº309-2013-MEM/AAM given on August 20th 2013, the first modification of Constancia project EIA was approved meeting the technical requirements for the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines and the environmental local regulations.

Earthworks

Stracon GyM

Stracon GyM has been working with Hudbay Peru in the development of its Constancia Project since August 2011. An Alliance Agreement was formed in November 2012, covering both Bulk Earthworks and Open Pit Mining Operations over an initial 5 year period.

Bulk Earthworks commenced at Constancia in March 2012 and are expected to be completed by end of 2014. The scope includes construction of access and mine haul roads, tailings dams, water storage reservoir, sediment control structures and initial development of the Waste Rock Facility.

Open pit mining operations are expected to commence early in 2014, with 9 months of pre-strip followed by continuous mining.

The EIA indicates that Constancia project will have an extraction rate of 55,000 tonnes per day (tpd) equivalent to 70,533 tonnes per year of copper and 3,000 tons of molybdenum concentrate annually. Current mining reserves are 277.4 million tonnes with a mine lifetime of 15 years.

The EIA includes studies on public participation, area project evaluation, description of activities, environmental management plan, mine environmental monitoring program, transmission line environmental monitoring program, conceptual closure and post closure.

According to directorial resolution Nº390-2010-MEM/AAM given on November 24th 2010, the Constancia project EIA study was approved meeting the technical requirements for the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines and the environmental local regulations.
