San Rafael is the leading Tin producing mine which currently produces 12% of the world's Tin, it is located in Puno region in the eastern cordillera of the Andes at 4,500 meters above sea level.
San Rafael is an underground mine. The application of the mining exploitation method "Sub Level Stoping" with the variant Large Blast Hole (LBH) for this type of mine composed of hard wall and competent rock. Production for 2014 reached 24,223 tonnes of tin.
Tin accounts for 75% of company sales and by the end of 2016 or the start of 2017, Minsur plans to operate a tailings treatment program at San Rafael that would add an additional 6,000 to 7,000 tonnes of tin to its annual production.
