Detailed engineering

Detailed engineering creates the full definition of project considering among its studies equipment specification, materials, construction, installation of facilities, etc. It includes all the studies to be performed before project construction starts.

Detailed engineering follows Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and explains in detail procurement of equipments, developing of diagrams and drawings for construction, civil works, instrumentation, electrical facilities. Detailed engineering also covers management of suppliers, respective cost and control schedules of project development.

The detailed engineering for the processing plant included the process, mechanical, piping, civil, structural, architectural, electrical and instrumentation engineering of the crushing area, material transport, stockpile, milling, leaching, upstream decantation, merril crowe and gold plant, tailings detoxification and reagents plant.

It also included the compressed air system, drinking and fire proof water systems, tailings recovery, the low and medium voltage distribution and the backup diesel energy plant. The engineering was developed in a 3D environment using PDMS, and the procurement was done with our own software SisMat.

Detailed engineering of the service corridor and concentrator plant protection dike.

The project included a service corridor between the Dam D (near the new camp) and the concentrator plant, with a length of 2.4km and a track width of 30m, where small vehicles will travel and pipeline services will be placed (fresh water, mine water, overflow, tailings, high and medium voltage transmission lines and fiber optics).

The design also included 03 platforms that were designed to relocate the existing infrastructure (warehouses, offices, workshops, etc). As part of the engineering development, the transmission lines in high and medium voltage will be carried through a gallery of reinforced concrete on the corridor.

Conceptual, basic and detailed engineering to increase the storage capacity of perforation samples.

Between 2012 and 2016, Antamina is conducting an exploration campaign that will require storage of 120,000m of drilling samples per year. GMI was hired to develop the conceptual, basic and detail Engineering of the 7 and 8 zones, located at the south of the current core shack platform in the Yanacancha camp.

The detailed engineering studies optimized the drainage designs presented in the basic engineering with the development of more economical technical solutions. In addition, an improvement was made on the accuracy of the material take off (MTO) and earthworks quantifications, drainage works, concrete works, metal structures, supply and improved electrical connections.

Earthwork MTO was updated with the survey data of the soil mechanics report, as well as the development of construction plans with the necessary detail to minimize the technical queries and modifications to be made during the work execution.

With all these adjustments it was possible to update the project CAPEX with a level of accuracy of +/-10%.

Detailed engineering and procurement for the expansion and modernization of the warehouses and mineral handling systems, including reception, storage and dispatch.

The main warehouse (Cormin I) was increase from 80 to 110 ton capacity and two additional industrial buildings were designed. Also, a total of 11 transportation belts were designed, 9 of them conventional for a total of 1,400 meters and 2 of them pipe conveyors for a total of 250 meters.

The project included a new administration building, maintenance workshops, internal vehicle roads, electric supply for the operation of the new installations and the control systems.

Detail engineering of seepage pumping line relocation.

Due to the steady expansion of the tailings dam, the seepage pumping system needed a change that covered the required flow rates. To do so, the system was moved out of the future projection of the tunnel decant extension.

The modified system corresponds to the facilities from the seepage pumping station, up to the booster station, and the development of complementary works for the relocation of pipelines and accessories required for a proper future operation.

Conceptual and Detailed Engineering for the construction of the By-Pass to the Main SAG Mill in the Grinding Area. The role of the By-Pass is to Transport, Grind, and Classify the Mineral in such a way that it allows the SAG Mill to stop working without the need to halt the plant operation.

The By-Pass has a Processing Capacity of 4.750 Metric Tons Per Hour and consists of a new Conical Crusher, Three New Conveyor Belts, Three Modified Existing Conveyor Belts, a Dosing Tripper, One Screen for Moist Material and Two Screens for Dry Material. Engineering was developed in a 3D environment using PDMS.

GMI developed the Detailed Engineering of the Sulfuric Acid Plant for the Copper Circuit. The design of the Gas Cleaning process was carried out by Fleck Chemical Industries Inc. (FCII) and the design of the producing sulfuric acid process was carried out by Aker Kvarner Chemetics (AKC). GMI completed the engineering work for this project in July 2009.

Additionally, DRP hired GMI to perform Material and Equipment Management Services for all their PAMA and Modernization projects. These services started in April 2007 and were successfully completed in December 2008.

Fluor Daniel evaluated the different processes of the plant and identified the critical points that turned into “bottlenecks” for an increase in production. Within the framework of the “Debottlenecking ” Project, GMI S.A. was asked to develop the detailed engineering.

The service was developed in two stages: The first was mainly carried out at the facilities of Cerro Verde in Arequipa from May 2008 to February 2009.

Basic and Detailed Engineering Project Cost Estimates and Technical Evaluations for the Purchase of Equipment for the Acid Water Treatment Plants (AWTP) at La Quinua and Pampa Larga for Minera Yanacocha.

The plants are located at an altitude of 4,000 masl., with temperatures between 0°C and 22° C and winds up to 120 km/hr. The AWTP Plants regulate the pH levels and remove heavy metals before being discharged to the environment. Before treatment, water contains the following metals: Aluminnum, Manganese, Iron and lower concentrations of Copper and Zinc.

The engineering design included an Acid Walter Intake, a collection and Transport System, Clarifier Tanks, a Sludge Clarifier System, a Chemical Dosing System and Transfer Pumps. Engineering was developed in a 3D environment using PDMS.

For this Project Doe Run Peru (DRP) hired the Services of the Canadian Company Fleck Chemical Industries Inc. (FCII), which was responsible for the Basic Engineering of the Lead Circuit Acid Plant and the Design and Selection of Process Equipment.

GMI was responsible for the Detailed Engineering Work Services Outside the Contract Limits of the DRP and FCII contract. This included Preliminary Engineering Works and Auxiliary Systems.

The Sulfuric Acid Plant for Lead Circuit began Operations in late September 2008.
